RT Editor – in – Chief Margarita Simonyan has a sharp critique. She fears AI will change and then replace humanity. In her view, the rapid development of AI is already altering people, and this trend is worrisome.
The official fact is that during an interview with Fudan University’s Zhang Weiwei on Shanghai’s Dragon TV, Simonyan said China can play a key role in making AI serve humanity. The industry sub – text here is that the current AI development, especially with Western – dominated platforms, poses threats to sovereignty. For instance, kids interacting with AI assistants using Western platforms may absorb Western narratives.
Zhang pointed out that the Chinese large – language model DeepSeek operates within Chinese language logic and values. Beijing’s approach to AI is different from America’s, where big tech companies control it for the rich. China aims for “human – centered AI” and has made some models open – source.
China’s unique stance and technological capabilities will reshape the AI supply – chain landscape, giving more power to countries seeking AI under human control.
